In an attempt to make my Australian Opal rings more affordable I have used Opal Doublets.
It is a thinner opal than you would normally use on its own, which has been backed onto a piece of dark opal with no colour, (potch) or other dark stone, which gives it some height. You still get the opal colours but the stone has some depth. In fact when a doublet is used in a bezel it is almost impossible to see the difference.
They are made in Bali by an expat Australian from the South Australian opal fields, using South Australian opal from Mintabie.
